The Partenope-tail register levers

Finished register levers

A rubber silicon mould was made of the two individual wax models.  These were used to make further wax models which could be used to cast two intermediate bronze models of the levers using the lost-wax process.  These bronze models were incised to bring up the detail of the scales and were then polished to a high sheen.  These bronze models were used, in turn, to make two further silicon moulds, and these final silicon moulds were used to make wax models which could be used in the 'lost wax' casting process to make the final bronze levers.

Once cast the final-stage bronze levers were gilt to give them a high gloss and to prevent them from oxidizing with use.
