Mozart's stop in Verona

Painting by Saverio dalla Rosa, 1770 (Private Collection, France) showing Mozart in Verona.

This portrait was made on the same trip that he made with his father to Rome and Naples.  Indeed Mozart is shown here wearing the same red velvet jacket with silver buttons and trim that he is shown wearing in the painting by Pietro Fabris.

Although not legible in this photograph the harpsichord being played by Mozart is signed "Ioannes Celestini Fecit MDLXXXIII".  The instrument was therefore almost 150 years old when it was being painted and played by Mozart.
