How to make your donation
If you live in the UK and can pay in Sterling £: It is now too late to send us a cheque to Edinburgh. But you could still send it to us in Zambia:
Grant O'Brien and Johnny Bell, Flatdogs Camp, P.O. Box 125, Mfuwe, Zambia, Central Africa.
If you do send us a cheque make it payable to Grant O'Brien or Johnny Bell, Kakumbi Clinic Fund.
You could also make a bank transfer for a small charge (we cannot then issue receipts as the bank does not inform us of the sources of the monies sent by bank transfer). To avoid fraud (see the Canadian section below) I have removed the Kakumbi Clinic banking details that we set up from this site. If you want to donate by making a bank transfer the please contact us by e-mail and we'll let you know the bank details. Please also let us know the date and amount of your donation if you make a bank transfer so that you can be properly credited in the accounts.
If you live in Canada and can pay in CAN$:
The dangers of living in the modern world!! Someone found the details of our Canadian bank account for the Kakumbi Clinic project using this website, and then used these details to pay their ISP charges to a Canadian ISP provider (PRIMUS)! We have put a stop payment on any further withdrawals from this account by making it a deposit-only account. Thankfully the amount removed in this way was only about $30. I have reported the details to the bank and to the RCMP.
If you want to make a donation using a bank transfer, the best way now would be to make it to our British account since we can then access and transfer this money electronically (e-mail us for the bank details).
Please let us know the date and amount of your donation if you make a bank transfer so that you can be properly credited in the accounts.
If you live in the US and can pay in US$: Residents of the U.S.A. could pay into our British account but may find it an advantage to make their donations through Working Hand in Hand - a charity based in the US which has formal charity status so that you can claim a tax refund. Mail a cheque to:
Working Hand in Hand
P.O. Box 2288
Menlo Park, CA 94026-2288, U.S.A.
IMPORTANT: Make the cheque out to "Working Hand in Hand", adding "Kakumbi Roof Medical Fund" at the bottom of the cheque. Also make sure to include your name and postal address so that Antonia from Working Hand in Hand can send you your receipt and your tax claim refund documents. This method has worked very well.
Working Hand in Hand will email me as soon as the cheque arrives, and will wire 100% of the donation to us and send the donor an acknowledgement letter for U.S. tax purposes. They can also take cheques from the U.K., Europe and Australian , and in such cases they will wire 100% of the proceeds after conversion into U.S. dollars by their bank.
If you make your donation in this way, please let us know the amount and date of your contribution so that we can both keep our eyes out for it and acknowledge your generosity properly.
If you live in Continental Europe and can pay in Euros (€):
It is now (November 30, 2006) too late for me to be able to get funds out of the Italian Kakumbi account and into our British account or into the Zambian account. Please use one of the above accounts (preferably the UK account as we will have on-line access to this account in Zambia). Full details are given above.
Please let us know the date and amount of your donations as the banks do not inform us of the sources of any bank transfers. We can then acknowledge your donation properly.
If you live in anywhere else in the world: you can also make your donations to any of the above accounts or by forwarding the funds directly into the Luangwa Safari Association Medical Fund account in Mfuwe, Zambia:
LSA Medical Fund Zanaco Dollar Account:
Bank: Zambia National Commercial Bank
Branch: Mfuwe Branch
Sort Code: 01-26-06
Account Number: 006037000000091
Swift code: ZNCOZMLU
All money in the non-Zambian accounts will be transferred at the end of December 2006 to the above Luangwa Safari Association Medical Fund and then closed. Accounts will be kept and will be issued to anyone wishing a copy at the end of the project.
A receipt will be made for all donations paid by cheque (the banks do not inform us of the sources of any bank transfers). If you make your donation by bank transfer, please let us know so that it can be properly acknowledged in the accounts.
All donations however small or large will be most gratefully received and will be greatly appreciated by the Clinic staff and particularly by the local population.

Current state of the Kakumbi Clinic Fund:

Now over US20,000! Wow - we're getting there!
The weakening of the US dollar has meant that recent contributions is non-US funds have converted into more $US than initially expected. But this, in turn, means that the purchasing power of the dollar in Zambia will also be less. So we're getting close now and are in high hopes that we will accomplish all we would like with the current funding levels. Now that we have been to Chipata and are able to price the materials we know that we must reach US$26,000, much more than initially anticipated, in order to be able to refurbish all three of the clinic buildings.
Many, many thanks to all those of you who have donated so far!! What a responsibility we have to be in charge of all this money so generously given by all of our family, friends and colleagues.
The donations Excel accounts sheet can be viewed by clicking here. If, for any reason you do not want your contribution noted on this web page please let me know and it will be recorded here simply as 'Anonymous Donor'. To see the costings so far, click here. By clicking the costings link you will see that the Ablution Block labour bill is 0. This is because Grant is doing the work on this part of the Project by himself and with the help of Derek and Duncan, the two Zambian High-School leavers who have volunteered their help.
Johnny and I get many requests from individuals for support. But we can't help them all.
